Lonnie Sessoms, Jr.'s Story
I graduated from Booker T. in 1967. Worked some seasonally at the China American Tobacco Factory. I accepted Christ into my life in 1968 and started attending the Rocky Mount Deliverance Evangelistic Center, 122 E. Thomas Street (Douglas Block). On June 30, 1969 I was drafted into the military (Army) and after Basic and AIT I was sent to Vietnam as an Infantryman (11B). I arrived in Long Bihn and later shipped to Quon Loi and was assigned to Alpha Company 1st Bn 5th Calvary. I was later sent to the fields and served until May 1970 when we were deployed to Cambodia. I served in that campaign until my DEROS in November 1970. I was then sent to Ft. Benning, GA where I served until May of 1970 and enlisted for 6 years and went to 91A (Basic Aidman, 91B (Medical Specialist), and 91C (Clinical Specialist). It was on September 30th, 1972 that I married my wife now of 38 years (Dr. Queen E. Sessoms) in Newark, New Jersey.
Having served at Brooke General Army Hospital, I was later sent to Walter reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC where I served as a Clinical Specialist at the Andrew Radar Clinic in Arlington National Cemetary. This was a one year tour of duty and I was assigned to Bassett Army Hospital in Fairbanks, Alaska. For 21/2 years I served in the artic with with my wife and at that time 2 children. then sent to Fort Bragg, North Carolina where I served the remainder of my tour of duty with Womack Army Medical Center and 44th Medical Brigade (28th Combat Support Hospital. I retired from the army on June 30th, 1989.
I am now residing in Fayetteville, North Carolina with my wife where we bought our home. We are blessed to have 5 five wonderful children who are now grown and living in various parts of the United States. We are pastoring here in the city of Fayetteville, NC, as well as Harnett County. We have established a Theological College that is a Religious Exempt College under the authority of University of Chapel Hill Board of Governors. We established Healthy Carolinians of Cumberland County which is a 501-C-3 Faith/Community based health, education and awareness community outreach serving the low income/ no income, under-served/under-priviledged residents of our state. We have partnered with the Duke University Dementia/Alzhiemers Community Outreach Partnership. My wife and I have received our Doctor of Philosophy Degrees and working in partnership with the National Institution of Health of Bethesda, MD.
We find our lives to be very full, fruitful and fulfilling because of our life in Christ as well as our service to the community. We are living victoriously because of the victorious Christ in us.
